New Gold recognizes that strengthening communities goes beyond the site itself and involves backing programs and partnerships that create a lasting impact on people’s lives.
That’s why, through the Community Investment Program, New Afton contributed over $17,000 toward new equipment for a renovated group and assessment space at Interior Health’s Mental Health and Substance Use facility in Kamloops.
This dedicated space is now used to provide enhanced life-skills programming and essential services to individuals living with mental health challenges. These programs go far beyond teaching daily tasks; they foster independence, build resilience, and offer emotional and social support in a hands-on, practical setting.

“Having a dedicated group and assessment space will significantly enhance life skills and occupational therapy services,” shared Jessica Mensinger, Interior Health’s Clinical Operations Director. “This space gives clients a safe and structured environment to build confidence while learning vital skills that support independent living.”
The updated space is designed for both learning and assessment, enabling occupational therapists, recreational therapists, and life skills coaches to work more effectively with clients, many of whom previously lacked access to such high-level care.
Without this support, the space simply would not exist. “This wouldn’t be happening without New Gold,” said Jessica. “We would still be relying on already stretched community resources. Instead, we are now better equipped to offer the full scope of support and services that our teams can offer.”
By supporting this initiative, New Afton is helping create a sustainable, community-based approach to mental health that empowers individuals and strengthens the fabric of care in our region.
