Showing Up Matters: New Afton Participates in Kamloops Pride

For the third consecutive year, New Afton employees took part in the Kamloops Pride Parade on Sunday, June 15—not just to march, but to show support to the 2SLGBTQI+ community. This year, 10 employees from various departments contributed by setting up, distributing New Afton-branded bags, walking in the parade, and proudly representing the site on a beautiful, warm day.

New Afton’s Fire & Mine Rescue truck was part of the parade this year, driven by Don Fraser, Supply Chain Senior Buyer.

“It’s always a great feeling to be part of something that brings people together,” said Don. “Everyone was in such good spirits, and I was proud to represent New Afton in the parade.”

Participating in community events like Pride directly aligns with New Gold’s values—particularly collaboration, respect, and excellence. Volunteering isn’t just about showing up; it’s about creating space where people feel seen and supported.

“I’m always proud of New Afton’s commitment to New Gold’s values,” said Brianna Maurer, Human Resources Superintendent and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee Chair. “We don’t just talk about them — we use them to guide tough decisions, to learn from our missteps, and to shape how we show up in the community. Events like Pride are a reflection of that: collaboration, respect, and excellence in action.”

From the rainbow face paint to the conversations sparked along the way, the presence of New Afton employees at events like this reflects New Gold’s ongoing commitment to supporting diversity both within its workforce and beyond the mine gate.
