Strengthening Food Access for Kamloops Neighbours

When food is wasted, it’s more than just a meal lost; it’s a missed opportunity to nourish someone in need. The Kamloops Food Bank’s foodSHARE program recovers fresh, perishable foods that might otherwise be discarded in landfills and redistributes them to families, schools, shelters, and partner agencies throughout the region.

In recognition of this critical mission, New Afton Mine’s Community Investment Program contributed $25,000 toward the purchase of a new five-ton refrigerated truck. This isn’t just a vehicle, it’s a lifeline. With added capacity and cold storage, foodSHARE can deliver more often, farther, and more reliably to people who need it most.

“This new refrigerated truck is a game-changer for foodSHARE,” said Bernadette Siracky, Kamloops Food Bank President and CEO. “Partnerships like this make food recovery not only possible, but powerful. New Gold’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and their vision for stronger, more sustainable communities is embodied in this donation, and we are deeply grateful to have their dedicated support with this important work.”

In 2024, foodSHARE delivered nearly 2 million meals to over 8,700 individuals in the community and region. Since its inception in 2007, the program has diverted more than 25 million pounds of food from Kamloops landfills.

New Afton supports initiatives that connect people, the environment, and opportunity. Through investments in community projects, such as those that improve food security, the company contributes to building a more sustainable future in partnership with local organizations.
